On June 30, we went on a social studies field trip.

Although it was the rainy season, we were relieved that the day of the social studies field trip turned out to be a fine day.

The first stop on the social studies field trip was the Akita City Environmental Center. We listened to a staff member talk about Akita City’s garbage disposal and observed how garbage is actually disposed of. They were able to learn about the meaning of garbage separation and the importance of recycling.

Next, we headed to Serion Tower in Akita City. The tower is the tallest tower in Akita City.

After enjoying the view of Akita City from the observation deck of the tower and taking commemorative photos, we all ate lunch together.

The last stop was the Folk Performing Arts Center, where we learned about the Kanto Festival, one of Akita Prefecture’s most famous festivals. After an explanation by a staff member, the participants actually raised a pole lantern. They also took pictures wearing happi coats, played the drums used in the festival, and had a chance to experience various aspects of Akita culture.

This was the first outing as a school event. We are sure that the students’ perspectives were broadened through the tour of facilities. We hope that what they learned on the social studies field trip will be useful in their future lives.
